ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the association between mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and hypersensitive C reactive protein (hs-CRP),interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) among Uygurs and Hans in Xinjiang region,China. Methods From July 2008 to October 2010,the epidemiological investigation was performed in Southern,Eastern and Northern of Xinjiang.Based on the diagnostic standard of United States psychiatric society of spirit obstacles diagnosis and statistics manual Ⅳ amendment version in the mild cognitive function,483 MCI patients were diagnosed.Finally,314 MCI patients were selected from above according to the completion of data.Moreover,299 subjects were randomly selected as the control group from the investigation.General information and fasting plasma were collected, and blood glucose, blood lipid and biochemical indexes, serum hs-CRP,IL-1β,IL-6 of concentration were tested. The association between MCI and hs-CRP,IL-1β and IL-6 were analyzed with SPSS 17.0 software. Results (1) The concentrations of serum hs-CRP,IL-1β and IL-6 in MCI group (3.40 (6.53) mg/L,0.09 (0.09) ng/L,136.08(96.77) pg/L) were significantly higher than that in control group (2.99 (3.91) mg/L,0.07(0.06) ng/L,79.32(68.79) pg/L) respectively (Z =-2.525,-2.946,-9.361,all P <0.05).(2)The concentrations of serum hs-CRP,IL-1β,IL-6 in Han MCI patients were significantly higher than that in Han non-MCI subject; The concentrations of serum IL-1β,IL-6 in Uygur MCI patients were significantly higher than that in Uygur non-MCI subjects; However, the hs-CRP concentration between MCI and non-MCI group is not statistically different among Uygurs.(3)Non-conditional Logistic regression analysis showed that serum IL-1β(OR =1.008,95% CI0.897-1.071,P =0.006),hs-CRP (OR =1.096,95% CI1.056-1.137,P =0.000),IL-6 (OR =1.011,95% CI1.008-1.014,P =0.000) were associated with MCI.Conclusion The hs-CRP,IL-1β and IL-6 were independent risk factors for MCI.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the level of thyroid hormone in Xinjiang Uygur and Han old people with mild cognitive dysfunction (MCI),and to provide basis for early intervention of MCI.Methods Case control study was carried out among 5398 residents who was above 60 years old in Xinjiang,Han and Uyghur, from July 2008 to October 2010.According to the diagnosis of MCI by American Psychiatric Society and DSM-Ⅳ,314 patients were diagnosed with MCI matching 299 healthy people as control group.Serum T3 (triiodothyronine),T4 (thyroxine) and TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) level was determined and compared between control group and MCI group with different nationalities and genders SPSS 17.0 statistical software was used to depict median and quartile of the data, two groups of distribution between the location of the median use Wilcoxon compares the rank of testing and analysis. Results (1) the level of serum T3 in MCI group was lower than that of the control group (1.26 μg/L vs.1.28 μg/L,Z=2.41,P<0.05),serum TSH level of MCI group was 5.37 mIU/L higher than that of the control group (Z =4.13,P < 0.05).(2) Male serum TSH level of MCI was 5.74 mIU/L higher than that of the control group (Z =5.09,P < 0.05).Women serum T3 level of MCI was 1.29 μg/L lower than that of the control group 1.53 μg/L (Z =2.62,P < 0.05).(3) Serum TSH level of MCI in Han nationality was 6.79 mIU/L higher than that of the control group (Z =4.95,P < 0.05).Serum T3 level of MCI in Uygur nationality was 1.29 μg/L lower than those of the control group 1.39 μg/L (Z =2.58,P <0.05),and T4 level was 82.37 μg/L lower than that of the control group 92.71 μg/L (Z =4.28,P < 0.05).(4) Uygur's T4 level was 82.3 μg/L,higher than the 42.12 μg/L in Han nationality (Z =9.83,P < 0.05),level of TSH in Uygur with MCI was 6.79 lower than that of the Han nationality (Z =4.28,P < 0.05).(5) The unconditional Logistic regression analysis showed hypertension, sugar metabolism disorders, hyperlipidemia, low level of T3 were independent risk factors for MCI (OR values were 2.014,2.466,2.096,0.470,respectively,95% CI were 1.361-2.981,1.649-3.687,1.396-3.149,0.334-0.663,respectively,P < 0.05).Conclusions (1) Thyroid hormone level in old people related to the occurrence of MCI ; (2)Aside recognized independent risk factors for MCI as hypertension, sugar metabolism disorders, hyperlipidemia, low T3 level may be one of the MCI independent risk factors.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVESTo study the tissue distribution of nodularin in mice and the cellular location of nodularin in the target organs.

METHODSThe nodularin was labeled with radioactive isotope (125)I and then was given to mice via oral, intraperitoneal and intravenous administration. The distribution of nodularin in target organs and the cellular location of nodularin were studied by radioisotope and autoradiography techniques.

RESULTSThe radioisotope study results showed that nodularin was mainly distributed in the kidney and liver in mice. Further autoradiography study indicated that nodularin was distributed in the renal cell nuclei and liver cell nuclei.

CONCLUSIONThe kidney and liver are the two main target organs for nodularin in mice.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo assess Microcystin LR (MCLR)-induced acute toxic effects in male Sprague-Dawley rats.

METHODSThe rats were injected with MCLR intraperitoneally in different doses for different days. The organs and serum with rats were collected at 1 and 7 days after injection, and 7 days after the final injection (total 14 days). Pathological and enzymatic changes were observed.

RESULTSThe rats injected with 122 microg/kg MCLR showed myocardial cells damage including pyknosis, plasma dissolve and myofibrilla (pls check with dictionary) necrosis in the heart muscles after 24 hours. At the same time, the activities of serum glutamate-oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and creatine phosphonase (CPK) were higher than these in the other groups (P < 0.01). The kidney was also damaged, kidney cell degeneration, and the increase of blood creatine (BCr) and blood urea nitrogen (BUN) were also seen. In liver pathological study, liver cell hemorrhage, degeneration and/or necrosis was observed. In serum the activities of glutamate-pyruvate transaminase (GPT), alkaline phosphatase (LDH) and GOT were higher than these in the other groups (P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONThese results suggested that MCLR can injure the heart, kidney and the liver in SD rats, and there is a dose-response relationship between MCLR and the toxic effect.
